Change the ban on pets in housing association properties - town and country housing group

The Issue

Recently there has been a policy put in place, by town and country, the largest social housing provider within Tunbridge Wells, that states unless you have your own exclusive garden, you will not be allowed to have a cat or dog in your home. Now, any responsible pet owner knows, garden or no garden, dogs need walks, and cats will go where they like. People are being told too, forced even to "get rid" of their dogs, to pass on, regime and be separated from a pet that they have perhaps had with them for a very long time. As a nation of animal lovers, how has it come to this? Who has the right to tell people whether they can or cannot own an animal? If that animal is loved and cared for, looked after and treated right, how can we be discriminated against for wanting to share our lives with our pets. The stress and upset I have faced personally, for moving into a properly after being homeless, having my dog by my side through all of this, and then being threatened with eviction, for that awful process to happen all over again, simply for loving the animal who had been my constant companion. Pets give you unconditional love, they are therapeutic, they are part of the family. Now I understand that some animals can be a nuisance (it is the owners who allow this) - deal with this as it comes, do not please tar us all with the same brush. This policy will and is directly putting more pressure on homeless charities, and on animal shelters, we see it enough on the television, we are always being told about one crisis or another. If you are a pet owner, animal lover, or you understand this case and agree, please sign this petition. A blanket ban is not the way forward to deal with this.... What will happen next? No Children in certain properties? (I have witnessed this on some private accommodation adverts) No over 60's?. How can a company have so much control over peoples life choices? What gives this housing association the right to make this decision, if other other housing providers are managing their tenants and pets completely differently? I propose that each individual person, each individual pet, is assessed independently. These are people's homes, people's pets and people's lives.
