This show named "Lucifer" is an insult to the Christian Community.  "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" is a quote from Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet often used to imply that the names of things do not affect what they really are. In our 21st century US culture where names are just made up because they sound good, this may very well be true but in ancient times and even today in some cultures outside this country, names have real significance and speak to the character of the person so named. This is especially true for biblical characters who were celebrated and esteemed because their name indicated they were worthy of honor even if their deeds said they were not. This still happens today especially in the entertainment industry. We celebrate and honor characters whether real or fictional who have been elevated to a position of esteem simply because their name has been associated with a popular show or movie. It is this celebration that compels me as a Christian to find the new television show entitled Lucifer completely objectionable. Why do we want to celebrate and esteem a name so clearly associated with evil? I don’t want my children and grandchildren bombarded with the idolization of the character associated with that name or a show that depicts him in anything other than what the bible says he is.  EVIL. Where does this stop?  With this petition we want to send the clear signal that this program offends our sensibilities and that our subscription to the network(s) supplying such programming and our support of the sponsors of such programming will be withdrawn until this offensive work is removed from the public airwaves.
