Season 8, Episode 20 of Family Guy is titled "Quagmire's Dad" and it is ultimately about Quagmire finding out his dad is transgender. This concept is handled in an offensive and disgusting manner and whilst watching it, it filled me with sadness and I can't imagine how it would make someone struggling with their gender expression feel. It is beyond offensive through them arguing whether he is transgender or homosexual and they say "Either way, let's just agree it's odd"- forwarding the idea that both homosexuals and trans individuals are strange. When Brian referred to Quagmire's newly transitioned parent as a "real woman", there was immense laughter from fellow characters, championing the idea that transgender women aren't real women. When Stewie initially told Brian that Quagmire's dad was transgender, his response is "that's hysterical"- it's clearly in no way hysterical and it has been covered in a way that is so insensitive. There are so many other instances within the episode that display both transphobia and homophobia- a lot of viewers of the show are young these poor, offensive values will be transferred to them. I believe this episode should not be aired on television as it is promoting behaviour that is in no way humorous or in any way acceptable.
