Why this petition matters

Started by Charles SHADDIX

Years ago U.S. Hwy 231 was ready to be four-laned from State Hwy 34 south to the Dam Road in St. Clair County. The right of ways have been purchased, the route surveyed and the project is ready to be "put to shovel". However, politics intervened and money for the project was diverted or siphoned off. Most mornings and afternoons, the two lane section of this highway in Pell City is bumper to bumper. This traffic back up adversely affects the intersecting streets and causes a "domino effect" along its route of backed-up and snarled traffic. The problem is compounded because the population in the southern parts of the county surrounding Lake Logan Martin have grown wildly in the past 30 years. We, the citizens and taxpayers demand that the elected municipal, county and state officials of Pell City and St. Clair County get off their collective rear ends and take action to see that this project is started and finished. With the influx of "infrastructure money" and the new Alabama Gas Tax, there is no reason for this project to be stalled.
