Dear Supporters--

The Board of Trustees STILL has the power to impose a mask mandate in FWISD--let's make sure that they CALL A VOTE to protect our kids and community! They can also create a virtual academy with 100% online teachers for ALL K-6 students and restore other commonsense safety measures in our kids' schools. They can improve contact tracing, communicate better with parents, and even ramp up a more robust protocol for in-school COVID testing (as LA Unified is doing).

The Board will meet again next Tuesday, August 24. We need to continue to tell them how much we care--starting with a peaceful, family-friendly March for Our Kids in downtown Fort Worth this Saturday evening, August 21, 6:00pm at the Tarrant County Courthouse. The legal situation remains up in the air, but experts working on the La Joya ISD v. Abbott case have advised us that the Tarrant County TRO enjoins only the Superintendent, not the Board itself. Further, any contempt of court charges or other efforts to bully, punish, or confine your FWISD Trustees who vote for a mask mandate would require several days or even weeks to take effect--and there are lawyers and activists who are ready to defend them. In short, the FWISD Board CAN and SHOULD do the right thing: VOTE for a MASK MANDATE to keep our kids and community safe. Si se puede! It can be done!

This is a moral battle, not a legal one. The FWISD Board has an obligation to do EVERYTHING they can to protect our kids. It starts by having the courage to STAND UP AND BE COUNTED. Keep emailing your Board members to urge them to VOTE YES on a mask mandate, virtual learning, and other safety measures. And come to the March for our Kids on Saturday! Spread the word!
