Come out today at 6:00pm to March for Our Kids in FWISD! We demand that the Board VOTE on a mask mandate and open up the virtual learning option to ALL students who need it! Tell the Board to stop playing political games and keep our kids and community safe! Please RSVP and share the Facebook event and this graphic!

This is a family-friendly, peaceful protest. Please wear masks and observe social distancing. Also wear RED! We will meet at the Tarrant County Courthouse downtown for a brief rally and then walk a loop to and from the Convention Center. We will be finished by 8:00pm.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Come to the March for Our Kids in downtown Fort Worth today at 6:00pm
  • Join us on Sunday, August 22, 5:00pm for the next FWISD4ALL planning meeting via Zoom (click here to join). Open to everyone who wants to help!
  • Email FWISD President Tobi Jackson and the other Board Trustees AGAIN, RIGHT NOW, to demand masks, virtual for ALL, and real safety in ALL schools. Copy-paste the email addresses listed below.
  • Plan to attend and speak at the next Board Meeting on Tuesday, August 24, 5:30pm, at the Professional Development Center, 3150 McCart Ave (at Berry). Call 817-814-1956 to sign up to speak!

Latest developments: thanks to all of our organizing, thousands of emails, and vocal presence at Board meetings, FWISD just announced the creation of a Temporary Virtual Learning Option (TVLO) this semester. This is a HUGE victory and more proof that people power works. Just two weeks ago, the district remained committed to 100% in-person instruction and offered no accommodations to vulnerable students. Now, pending Board approval on Tuesday, the new TVLO will be open to K-6 students who "have a documented medical condition that prevents them from attending school in - person due to COVID – 19."

But we all know this is NOT enough! We still need the Board to take a VOTE up or down on a mask mandate to protect ALL kids, but President Tobi Jackson still refuses to even put it on the agenda. We need the district to open the TVLO to ALL students who need it--not just the most vulnerable but also other families. For example, what if a student doesn't "have a document medical condition" but lives with someone who does? FWISD is receiving over $400 million in federal ESSER funds for COVID relief. Why won't they spend it on our kids' safety?

Last, we need the district to fully commit to restoring ALL of the common sense safety protocols that were in place last year and to expand contact tracing and routine testing. After just the first week, more than 1,000 FWISD students and teachers are already in quarantine. This is simply unacceptable! Students can't learn if they aren't safe!

Thanks to all of our members who have been interviewed by the media to support our cause. We're always looking for more volunteers to add new voices to our public presence, so please send us a message on Facebook if you want to be on-call for media interviews. We try to keep up with posting and sharing all the relevant stories, but please let us know if we miss something featuring one of our parents or community supporters.

Thanks for continuing to take action to keep our kids and community safe! See you later today at the March for Our Kids!
