The Issue

Sexually Oriented Businesses in Fort Wayne, from Sex Shops, Adult Book Stores, Strip Clubs and any other such business are under attack due to the city’s new ordinance, Bill # G-19-07-35 of Fort Wayne’s Code of City Ordinances Title XI Chapter 121.

The common council has deemed that these businesses cause adverse secondary effects including but not limited to; human trafficking, prostitution, lewdness, public indecency, illicit trafficking and drug use, negatively impacting surrounding properties, littering, sexual assault, and exploitation.
The truth is, these atrocities occur everywhere globally. Our city’s clubs and other businesses in this industry make it their mission to keep these occurrences away from their businesses by adhering to strict rules in place and by employing staff to enforce them. They keep watch at all times to ensure these adverse secondary effects that are forewarned in this bill and it’s proposal are not occurring on or in their establishments.
This ordinances states that entertainers must not perform in a state of undress past what they’ve deemed “semi-nude” unless they do so 6 feet or more away from all patrons. 3/4 of their bottoms and their breasts must be covered. Once 6 feet away and 18 inches off of the floor, dancers can disrobe as long as their areolas are completely covered by opaque covering, meaning the widely used latex, paint and tape are no longer permitted. Bottom side straps must also be at least 1 inch in width. This also means no disrobing for personal/private or table dances.
This will affect all workers in the industry; dancers, bar and wait staff, security, club owners, managers and djs. Less patrons means less income for all workers.
