Stop the Development Upon a Critical Habitat Area

The Issue

If you care about your local community and environment, this is a cause worth fighting for. We need your support to help protect a lot composed of several native habitat areas from being torn down and developed upon.

This integral ecosystem is endangered of being turned into a development of 76 condos, a pool house, and parking lot. The Sanibel Way Condo Association is adjacent to the lot and is looking for help to protect this space.

There is a 5.3 acre lot that homeowners are fighting to protect in Iona, FL., near Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel (11901 Kelly Road, Ft Myers FL 33908). There are three habitat areas that house many native plants and animals, resulting in bobcat and bald eagle sightings. There is also the White Ibis and the Florida Scrub Jay, which are deemed part of the "Imperiled Species Management Plan", along with the Bald Eagle.

There are plenty of wildlife species that are both protected by both the Florida and Federal government. Additionally, there has been an increase of wildlife in the lot since a nearby natural habitat was already torn down only a quarter mile away from the community. In addition to the flora and fauna it hosts, it also protects the community from flooding during rainstorms, which is already a major issue in the area.

The habitat asks as a buffer for rainwater for the community, although it is prone to flooding in intense rainstorms and hurricanes. Without this habitat, the concrete slab that will replace the lot has desirous affects on the community. There will be an increase of people in an area that exceeds the population limit of the lot, as well as endangering property value, the rain-water system, and native wildlife.

With your support we can halt the demolition of this lot, protecting both people and the surrounding wildlife from witnessing destruction.
