We, the undersigned parents and guardians of students attending Hillcrest Academy, submit this formal petition to express serious concerns regarding student safety, supervision, and the school’s duty of care.

It is our understanding that schools have a legal and ethical obligation to provide a safe, secure, and supervised environment for all students. Recent events and ongoing concerns indicate that this obligation may not be consistently met.

Reports from multiple families point to a pattern of serious incidents, including but not limited to:

 • A student bringing a weapon onto school property accompanied by threats of harm

 • Repeated situations requiring emergency response intervention

 • Ongoing bullying, physical aggression, and intimidation resulting in emotional distress and, in some cases, physical injury

 • Allegations of repeated inappropriate and non-consensual physical conduct between students

There is growing concern that these matters are not being adequately addressed in a manner that ensures ongoing student safety. Disciplinary measures such as short-term suspensions appear insufficient where there is a continued risk to other students upon a child’s return to school.

Furthermore, parents have raised concerns suggesting:

 • A lack of consistent enforcement of safety protocols

 • Situations where students who report incidents or attempt to defend themselves are subject to disciplinary action

 • A perceived imbalance where disruptive or high-risk behaviors are not effectively managed, resulting in a compromised learning environment for the broader student population

There is also concern among families regarding the level of transparency surrounding serious incidents, and whether sufficient information is being communicated to parents to allow them to make informed decisions about their children’s safety.

We respectfully but firmly request the following actions:

 1 An immediate and formal safety review of the school environment and recent incidents

 2 Written clarification of protocols related to weapons, threats, bullying, and inappropriate conduct

 3 Implementation of enhanced supervision measures, particularly in areas such as schoolyards, hallways, and washrooms

 4 Clear and consistent application of disciplinary measures proportionate to the severity and recurrence of behavior

 5 Assurance that students who report concerns are protected from retaliation or unjust disciplinary consequences

 6 Transparent communication to parents regarding steps being taken to mitigate ongoing risks

Should these concerns remain unaddressed, parents are prepared to escalate this matter to the appropriate school board authorities and other relevant oversight bodies, and to seek further avenues to ensure accountability and the protection of students.

This petition reflects the collective concern of families who expect a safe and secure learning environment for their children. We request a timely response and documented action plan addressing the issues outlined above.
