Other schools across the state of victoria run an annual formal night for year levels ranging from 10 to 12. Kambrya College only runs a Debutane Ball for year 11's and some students feel we should have a Formal within the school for year 10's. the main differences between a Debutane Ball and a Formal include dances, outfits and socialisation. Formals are very similar to proms which are normally held in America. This gives students an opportunity to socialise and have a great night connecting with teachers and other students. A formal is regularly held for just students and is a great way to let students have a great time without their family constantly with them. A few examples of schools in the state who hold both Formals and Debutane Balls include:
- Upper Yarra Secondary College in the Yarra Valley
- Salesian College in Sunbury
- St Francis Xavier College in Berwick
- Melbourne High School in the City
From a general class survey 70% of students explain that they would go to a formal if the school had held one. We, as students, believe that holding a Formal in Kambrya College will improve our school because this gives students the opportunity to get involved within the school out of learning envronments and allows students in year 10 to gain independance and represent our schools values. The act of having a formal is considered a reward for all efforts that students put into their academic years. This will help the school economically, funding different events at the school and this will also attract a diversity of students to attempt school activities out of their comfort zone.
