BATTLE - ENFORCE WOODLAND RESTOCKING ORDER AGAINST 'VANDALISM ON AN INDUSTRIAL SCALE'

The Issue

Support this call for the Forestry Commission to enforce its restocking order on Chain Lane.  If they don't, they will be giving license to anyone to chop down trees, knowing that the Forestry Commission and Rother will back off and allow development.

One Rother Councillor said "This has been vandalism on an industrial scale, this site.  What had mature trees,  we could see by the presentation, hundred year old trees been taken down.  And some are left, yes, some are left but it has been declared illegal, this cutting down of the trees, and indeed our own tree officer, back in the beginning of 2019 said permission should be refused on this site…..   I cannot be supporting something that is criminal”. … “they actually have been served a notice to replant over 200 trees”.

This site in the AONB was illegally felled in 2017. Forestry Commission put a restocking enforcement notice on the land.  Yet, Rother has STILL granted planning permission.  The only way to stop this is for Forestry Commission to enforce its order (which trumps Rother's planning permission).

Another Rother Cllr, said " I would hope that the Forestry Commission would stand by and hold to its guns and do its duty and not take anything that we decide here under different legislation as being a nod and a wink for them to back off.  That should not be the case."
