In the last few weeks Iranian police have been responsible for the violent deaths of dozens of Afghan asylum seekers in Iran. 

At the beginning of June 2020, 3 young men burned alive after police shot at their car, and many more who were seriously injured were handcuffed to hospital beds. In May more than 57 asylum seeking Afghans were beaten and forced at gunpoint into a river by Iranian border police, 45 of whom drowned or are still missing.

As an Afghan living in the UK I add my voice to the millions of shocked and distressed Afghans the world over in denouncing this abhorrent treatment. We call on the British government, as a matter of greatest urgency, to bring pressure to bear on the Iranian authorities to bring an immediate halt to the murder, torture and persecution of Afghan nationals. 

Furthermore, we call on them to press for an effective and independent investigation into these incidents, and into the Iranian government's general treatment of fleeing Afghans - including forcibly deporting them into a war zone in vast numbers - and to insist that the Iranian officials responsible are held to account, and that the human rights of Afghan nationals are upheld.
