Ford, GM, and Stellantis. Add Optional Towing Mirrors on Your Full Size SUVs

The Issue

It’s quite absurd that you can’t get towing mirrors on any full size truck based SUV from the factory except the newest Toyota Sequoia. Speaking of towing mirrors, I have actually seen quite a few people install aftermarket towing mirrors on their full size SUVs, mostly the 2007-2014 GM full size SUVs. The reason why people install towing mirrors on their full size SUVs is because they make towing bigger trailers safer. Transitioning into the main reason, why I think Ford, GM, and Stellantis should add optional towing mirrors on their full size SUVs as full size SUVs in North America are getting more and more capable, and higher maximum towing capacities which means optional towing mirrors from the factory will be a huge safety feature as some full size SUVs today have maximum towing capacities of at least 9,000 lbs. I personally don’t get why Ford, GM, and Stellantis won’t do optional towing mirrors on their full size SUVs since they’re related to 1/2 ton pickup trucks and they’re meant to do at least some of the same things as full size pickup trucks like towing heavy trailers like bigger boats, campers, and livestock trailers. Even the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer that has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs doesn’t have optional towing mirrors from the factory which is more than some full size pickup trucks. Speaking of full size pickup trucks, I know that all of the pickup truck counterparts of the full size SUVs have optional towing mirrors since some full size pickup trucks have maximum towing capacities exceeding 12,000 lbs. If the 1/2 ton pickup trucks have optional towing mirrors, then their SUV counterparts should have them as well since they’re both related. I understand some people may not like towing mirrors on full size SUVs for aesthetic reasons, but aesthetics are not everything and SUVs are no exception to that. The reason Toyota added towing mirrors as an option to the newest Sequoia is because towing mirrors enhance visibility which reduces blind spots which makes towing trailers safer, especially bigger ones and the newest generation Sequoia has a maximum towing capacity anywhere from 8,980 lbs to 9,500 lbs which is roughly 22% higher than the previous generation Sequoia. https://pressroom.toyota.com/five-things-to-know-about-the-2023-toyota-sequoia/#:~:text=With%20the%20addition%20of%20optional,Interior%20With%20Features%20for%20Everyone I also know that some people who tow with their full size SUVs pull campers that are at least 30 feet long which is big so towing mirrors will make the experience much safer. I have a 2017 Ford Expedition and it can tow up to 9,300 lbs which is the highest among any SUV in 2017 and I tow with it at least three times a year and I know that I have towed a couple of campers that are almost 30 feet long and I know what it’s like pulling bigger trailers with conventional mirrors. The only other big SUV that had optional towing mirrors from the factory in history is the Ford Excursion which is based on a 3/4 ton truck and has a maximum towing capacity as much as 11,000 lbs which is more than any 1/2 truck based SUV that ever existed. I personally think having optional towing mirrors on the other full size SUVs is great thing to have as not only consumers demand more capability in full size SUVs, but it also helps people truly see what full size SUVs are meant to do and have a deeper connection with their pickup truck counterparts.
