Forcing children to unknowingly eat halal meat — sacrificed in the name of a pagan god

Forcing children to unknowingly eat halal meat — sacrificed in the name of a pagan god
The Issue
Texas House Bill 625 (89th Regular Session) highlights this exact issue in public schools. Parents and children deserve transparency and the right to choose meat that honors Christ instead of being forced into another faith’s ritual.
this is wrong!
As a Christian parent in our community, I have always valued diversity and the inclusion of different cultures and beliefs. It's essential that our children learn in environments that respect and accommodate the rich tapestry of traditions that make our society vibrant and unique. However, I've noticed a disparity in how religious dietary needs are being addressed within our school district.
Many schools within Plano Independent School District recently started offering Halal-certified meals to accommodate the dietary requirements of Muslim students. While this is a positive and necessary step towards inclusivity, it raises a concern for me as a Christian: why aren't the dietary requirements of Christian students who observe Qaddisa certification being equally recognized?
According to 2020 U.S. Census data, about 15% of the population in Collin County identifies as Christians who observe dietary laws similar to Qaddisa. Yet, these students are left with limited options when it comes to their meals. Our schools have an opportunity and a responsibility to accommodate all students fairly, ensuring no child feels excluded or less respected due to their dietary needs.
The Christian Qaddisa certification is an important aspect of living out our faith. It involves meat that is prepared in a manner respectful to our religious traditions, similar to how Halal and Kosher meats are prepared. Denying students access to such meals means they have to either compromise their beliefs or settle for meals that don't align with their faith.
To promote fairness and equity, I am calling upon the Plano Independent School District to commit to including Qaddisa certified meat options in school lunches. This call for inclusivity should be met with open hearts and minds, embracing the diversity that strengthens our community.
By signing this petition, you are supporting an initiative to respect and acknowledge the dietary practices of all students, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable school environment. Together, let's ensure no child has to choose between attending school and honoring their faith. Please join me in advocating for this essential change.
