Force the Resignations of Mayor & Aldermen Regarding Garrison Lofts Debt Forgiveness

The Issue

This is an important cause for the citizens of Rockford, IL, to stand up and request action on regarding the 2014 debt forgiveness vote granted by Rockford, IL's city council. Millions of dollars owed on the Garrison Lofts development project by the Mayor of Rockford's family business was forgiven.

  • Recession-era timed economic hardships were used as excuses / reasons to forgive the debts and hand the property back to the bank.
  • Rockford's City Council shockingly voted 12-1 in favor of forgiving the debts, estimated at over $5 million dollars. The property and debts becoming the bank's responsibilities to handle, relieving the Mayor's family business.

Every tax paying property owning citizen in Rockford, IL, could blame the late 2000's recession for economic hardships. Every single citizen. What allows this particular situation to be forgiven?  Political influence.

The mayor of Rockford claimed in a local radio interview (see below for link) predating city council's 2014 vote that he has had no financial interest in the Garrison Lofts property development since before his first term election in 2005 (despite living next door on the same lot of land in adjoining residential property, no coincidence).

We must hold our leaders accountable.  We the people have the right to call out our leaders for their actions since the local media can't afford to (being just as bought off, scared and corrupt).

  1. We the people of Rockford, IL, motion this petition to have every City Alderman / Council member who voted in favor of the debt forgiveness to resign, along with the Mayor's resignation. (A reelection may be ordered by the state, though quite pointless considering a mere 22% of you Winnebago County, Rockford area citizens actually use your power to vote.)
  2. If the resignations can't be complied with by our corrupt State of IL, we motion to have every citizen's property loan, taxes and debts forgiven with this group petition. Yes, we motion to have City Council vote on every individual's recession-era timed debts and hardships.

Force our leaders to own up to their behaviors with a resignation, or demand an exhaustive City Council voting process to have every citizen's Winnebago County property loan and related debts forgiven due to the same recession era hardships used as reasons for allowing the Garrison Lofts debt forgiveness.

People, remember, you do have the power to force change if you want to use it; and since our own local media fails on a continuous basis to represent the voice of the people, as they should but don't, we must. This isn't communist China where the people have little say. This is still America where the voice of the people can still make a difference if enough people care to sign and share this petition so that we are heard by the few remaining decent powers that be.

Here is local media proof of the debt forgiveness vote that occurred:

Here is an excerpt from a 2013 WNTA radio interview with the Mayor of Rockford by which he clearly passes off this subject to other people, including his family, while blaming the recession for its problems:
