Force Meta to Reverse The Anti-Queer Language In It's Hateful Conduct Policy
The Issue
Recently, Meta (the company that owns Facebook and Instagram) has updated their hateful conduct policy. Under Tier 2 of the Do Not Post category [(Content targeting a person or group of people on the basis of their protected characteristic(s) (in written or visual form)], the following is stated:
We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality and common non-serious usage of words like “weird.”
This simply cannot be construed as anything other than a direct attack on LGBTQ+ individuals and their online safety. This shameful, not to mention utterly hypocritical, verbiage is a flagrant declaration of unwelcomeness towards queer users, and Meta cannot be allowed to enforce such harmful policies on their platforms.
