Justice For Dustin Mettura

Justice For Dustin Mettura
The Issue
Since no lawyer in the state of Indiana seems to think Dustin is worth fighting for, I will just go public with his story and the recording from 12/16/2020. You all can listen for yourself and hear how Dr. Maya Guglin from IU health Methodist told Dr. Georges Eprhem 2 months before Dustin died that she thought they were "too late" to get him transplant. Yet never told either one of us or my mother in law this. They NEVER offered him the option of comfort care throughout his suffering those 16 months. A doctor even bullied him the Saturday before his death over his weight when you know that doctor would have known he wasn't going to qualify anyways. Comfort care was only offered when there were no other life sustaining options left. The longer they kept him alive and fed us false hope the more cardiomems data they could get from him. I wholeheartedly believe they cared more about money they got treating him and data than they did him as a person or patient.
Had they told us the truth we could have done things he wanted to do and made more memories but instead we stayed in because we were told if he stayed healthy (covid free) and lost more weight he would get listed. He was in kidney failure according to his death certificate for 2 weeks and they only told of the kidney failure the day he died. Two weeks before I was told his levels were elevated but fine. Dec. 14th I was told they were just adjusting meds. Dustin was told he was coming home the next day. Every chance they had that they could have been honest they chose to lie. Dec. 15th he began to struggle to breathe and they intubated him. He had NO clue he was going to die. He never came to after that. Within 24 hours he was non responsive. He passed December 16,2020 at 2:03PM. Our daughter's second birthday.
Please sign this petition to help IU health see that they need to require honesty from their physicians so that patients are granted the right to make dignified choices for themselves instead of being lied to. His end of life should have looked much different. Nothing is going to bring him back but I pray they can learn from the mistakes they made treating him.
