Force Bounty Hunters to Follow ALL State Laws or Lose Their License Automatically!
The Issue
Hello, I want to bring a topic of discussion to the public's attention, that you may or may not be aware of, BOUNTY HUNTERS.
Some states don't allow bounty hunters because of the dangers they pose.
Bounty hunters have rules and regulations that they are required to follow. There have been several cases recently about rogue bounty hunters not following the laws and regulations they are licensed to follow.
Bounty hunters are licensed by the Department of Criminal Justice. They should have to follow all laws and video each encounter, and if they fail to follow the laws their license should be automatically pulled and not be allowed to practice again. Having a bounty hunter license is not permission to harass innocent people.
When bounty hunters don't follow the rules and regulations that they are licensed with, they can be reprimanded by the state and even lose their license. I believe the laws should make it automatically a loss of license when one or more rules are violated. My husband and I had such an encounter with two bounty hunters in January 2022 in Virginia. These two individuals came onto my private property, that had signs posted everywhere stating "Private Property No Trespassing". Neither of them identified themselves to us, neither one showed us their credentials, and neither one of them showed us any paperwork for the fugitive girl that they were "supposedly" looking for.
One of them didn't speak a word and just hung out at the side of our property watching the other bounty hunter harass us, and accuse us of lying and harboring a fugitive. The one bounty hunter was so hostile and aggressive that we automatically knew something was strange going on. We don't know the girl, never met the fugitive girl before and he became very irritated with us because we refused to let him in to search for her. We have always been law abiding citizens, never in any trouble with the law, and at 56 years of age, I have never had so much as a traffic citation, nor has my husband. We asked him to leave several times and he wouldn't go because he was in his words, "conducting an investigation". I told him that I was calling the Caroline County Sheriff's Office and he yelled to go ahead and call because they already knew he was out there looking for the girl.
The deputies that came out told us they were not told ahead of time about them being in the area, which is another rule that they are supposed to follow.
After breaking numerous rules and regulations of bounty hunters, we decided to have them charged with trespassing, which we were told we could do, and we did.
When they found out that I was planning to get them for trespassing, one of the bounty hunters took out a charge against me!! He had no problem getting a magistrate to believe his bogus story that he accused me of, after violating all of the rules and regulations that he did that night when trespassing on my property. I have had several court dates now to defend myself, AFTER he broke rules and regulations and trespassed on my property. I was arrested 2 days after my 56th birthday,
I did at least get the Department of Criminal Justice to open an investigation into these two bounty hunters, and that case is in the adjudication process right now. In the meantime, I have court appearances to make because after being charged with something, it's a long legal process, to get the charge dismissed. In our judicial system, you are guilty until you prove your innocence, rather than the other way around. He now wants to portray himself like he's a "victim" after disregarding rules and regulations, not to mention lying. It's on video.
This needs to change. This should not be allowed anywhere in the United States. If bounty hunters violate rules and regulations, they should automatically lose their license to do this work.
