For a Healthier India: Celebrities, Stop Promoting Unhealthy-Harmful Packaged Foods

The Issue

Dear Celebrities,

I am writing to urge you to reconsider your endorsements of packaged foods and drinks that are harmful in the long run, including those containing palm oil, maida, extra sugar, extra salt, MSG and so-called health drinks/juices.

Even if you believe that avoiding endorsements of liquor, tobacco, or non-vegetarian products is sufficient, promoting unhealthy packaged foods and drinks is equally problematic. Many of these products might not even be used by you or your family members.

As influential public figures, you have the power to create positive change. It is your ethical responsibility to use your influence wisely and not contribute to making such companies wealthier at the expense of public health. You just can't be a sleeping partner with such companies in selling unhealthy products to Indians.

By disassociating from these companies, you can help reduce their advertising and marketing costs, enabling them to replace harmful, cheap ingredients with healthier, albeit slightly more expensive, alternatives without significantly impacting their net margins.

While it may not be your legal responsibility at present, your position of immense influence carries a moral responsibility. You cannot ignore the role you play in promoting these products to the public.

This is a humble request from a concerned citizen, a father worried about the health of his children, and a health-conscious individual who believes that health is the greatest wealth and a fundamental right of every Indian, regardless of income class. Your support and positive influence can contribute significantly to fostering a healthier nation.

Swasth Bharat ! Viksit Bharat!!

Sincerely,

Pawan Kabra
