Food Insecurity in Massachusetts

Food Insecurity in Massachusetts
The Issue
Food insecurity in Sudbury and Massachusetts is becoming a big problem. Food insecurity is much more common than people think. One out of every three families in Massachusetts go to bed hungry because they don’t have enough food. After hearing that there are 1.1 million families who are food insecure, my civics group knew we needed to try and help.
We are a group of four girls in 8th grade who are trying to get a bill passed that has local farmers donate a portion of their fresh food and crops to families who don't have access to any fresh food. After the farmers donate the food, they will get a deduction from their taxes, because they donated the food. In the beginning when farmers first start to donate the deduction will be a small present taking off of their taxes, but as they donate for longer the amount taken off of their taxes will increase by a small amount.
We think that getting this bill passed will help a lot of people and families because it is beneficial to both the families and the farmers and can decrease the amount of people that are food insecure in Massachusetts.
By signing this potion, you will help get this bill passed to help people who are food insecure, which is about 1.1 million households in Massachusetts.
Thank you, Alex H, Gabby G, Amina A and Dylan A
