Stop Purchasing Eggs from Battery Cage Farms

Stop Purchasing Eggs from Battery Cage Farms
The Issue
I have been a proud Food Giant supporter for many years. They have great prices, a great selection, and the perfect small town charm. However, I can no longer shop at Food Giant in good conscience. I recently found out that Food Giant still sources the majority of its eggs from farms that confine egg-laying hens in cruel battery cages.
Picture this: each hen has less space than a sheet of paper and lives within the bars of a tiny, filthy cage. The harsh wire cuts into the hens’ feet. Jostled by their cage-mates, many have body parts stuck in the wire. Dead hens are trampled into mummification. They will never able to do anything natural, like perching, dust bathing, or even spreading their wings.
Extreme confinement practices are barbaric, unacceptable, and even criminalized in countries all over the world and in several U.S. states. Prominent retailers such as Walmart, Kroger, Dollar Tree, and many others are transitioning away from this outdated practice. Not only retailers, but the top restaurant chains, manufacturers, hospitality companies, and even the country’s top egg producers are all phasing out cages from its supply chains.
Despite this food industry wide shift to cage-free farms, Food Giant refuses to end its support of animal abuse. This is a terrible way to treat animals in our food supply, and I will no longer shop at Food Giant until it gets on board and changes with the times.
Please sign my petition urging Food Giant to end its support of farms that cage egg-laying hens!
