I want to solve the tobacco problem in the US today. The officials of this great country changed the tobacco age from 18 to 21 back in September of 2019. This is unfair to us younger generations who are addicted to nicotine and it’s products. Yes it is a health problem but there are bigger issues in this country. Myself as an 18 year old small town kid is addicted to nicotine and can’t buy it. This leads to more black market exchanges and causes a bigger problem in the US than just a young adult smoking. The old problems come back to us such as we are old enough to fight for this country but we are not old enough to smoke what some of us like, we are old enough to vote for these officials but they will not be doing us favors. As of the election in 2020 the state of Colorado passed a tobacco tax act that raises the sale price of tobacco products. If you change the age back to 18, you wouldn’t need to be paying 10-15 dollars for a pack of cigarettes. Yes inflation is a thing and this price will be reached soon, but this will help keep it low for a while longer. My goal for this is to help the 18-20 year olds who cannot buy tobacco, and also help the government take criminals off the streets and still make profit off of the younger generations. Thank you.
