Food waste.. An approximate total of 1.3 billion tons of food get lost or wasted annually
The Issue
Food waste is one of very serious problems in India. And part on which we took no notice is the birthday cake wasting, colouring the faces of people with cakes, throw them on others on birthday celebrations. We disregard this very small but very effective issue in India. It's just become a fun thing for this modern generation. Please pay heed, our culture is also at stake which didn't teach us to respect our food like this.
According to the United Nations Development Programme, up to 40% of the food produced in India is wasted. About 21 million tonnes of wheat are wasted in India and 50% of all food across the world meets the same fate and never reaches the needy. Food waste score of India is 72.7 and 71 percent in the world's average.
India wastes 250 crores worth of food in a day. Eighteen percent of fruits and vegetables produced in India which have a worth Rs 13,300 crores is wasted annually. And the approx food wasted in India per year is worth Rs. 91,250 crores annually. You know that rummaging through a bin of apples until you find the most perfect-looking one contributes to food waste. We all need a perfection, consumers need flawless fruits and vegetables. Use leftovers, they are not only for holidays. While having a well-stocked fridge can be a good thing, an overly filled fridge can be bad when it comes to food waste. Although I kept it short most of the things are left covered. But tried to keep it succinct.
Less food and food waste can lead to a better use of water resources and land uses and it'll impact a good effect on the climate. Please sign this petition so that the food loss can be lowered down and get to its minimum level.
