Folly Beach Non-Resident Owners Statement

Folly Beach Non-Resident Owners Statement
The Issue
This Petition is for Non-Resident, and thus non-voting, people that have a stake in Folly Beach to be counted and heard on their desire to find unified solutions to the various issues of concern of Folly Beach. These issues include livability concerns, environmental concerns, erosion control, litter abatement, property rights/usage issues, nuisance properties, tax money usage, violations and government overreach.
The goal of this petition is to gather non-residents as a group to show Folly Beach City Council and the Full-Time Residents of Folly Beach the number of people that have a common concern on addressing issues on Folly Beach.
The current major issue that we want to add our voice to is the proposed 800-Unit Cap on Short Term Rentals and the various property rights that this new law would violate. We want to show a strong disagreement to this proposal and make it clear that we want to find common ground solutions but that this Cap goes too far. By signing this petition, we are imploring City Council and the Voters of Folly Beach to "Push the Pause Button" on this issue and let us come up with a solution that most people can agree on and more importantly, does not violate everyone's property rights, including the rights of Full-Time Residents. We also want to strongly point out the fact that other similar community's that have passed these laws have lost court cases recently and thus caused their City's and Citizens hundreds of thousands in court fees and judgments. Why should the City do something that will only cause division among the population and likely end up in a losing legal battle?
Signing this petition sends a message to "Press the Pause Button".
This petition is created and managed by the Non-Profit group Folly United. Folly United is committed to supporting sustainability on Folly Beach by helping the community members understand the synergies between our Full-Time Residents, our 2nd Home Owners’, local Low Country people that day trip to the beach, our Short and Long-Term rentals, our property rights, our local leaders, and our future.
