Mike Fleck started this petition to Folly Beach City Council and

Its time to reopen Folly Beach.  The beach has been closed to everyone except residents of Folly Island since March 20, 2020.  The beach is a perfect outdoor open air venue to exercise and enjoy the sun with plenty of room to practice social distancing.  South Carolina taxpayers want to be able to enjoy the beach again!

Many Charleston area residents pay a premium in housing, insurance and taxes to live near the coast to be able to enjoy the beaches, even though they do not live within the Folly Beach city limits.  Additionally, we support the Folly Beach economy by patronizing restaurants and shops all year long.

Recent events within the City of Folly Beach show that many of its residents are not concerned with social distancing, on the other side of the police checkpoints.  This is a slap in the face to local area residents that would use the beach while practicing social distancing if it were open.

The impacts of this extended closure are going to be felt by Folly Beach businesses and property owners. Opening the beach now will help mitigate the damage that is surely being felt by restaurants, shops, and rental properties.  Once the beach is reopened it will take some time for rentals to start booking again.
