Prevent nutrient sources from polluting Florida's waterways

This year, a record number of manatees have died in the state of Florida. Most of these deaths are caused by starvation. The majority of a manatee's diet consists of seagrass, and across Florida, seagrass numbers are rapidly decreasing. This is mainly caused by algal blooms in Florida's waterways consuming sunlight and excess nutrients from pollutants. This prevents the seagrasses from getting the nutrients, oxygen, and sunlight they need to survive. Algal blooms not only harm manatees, but the entire ecosystem. Some major sources of this nutrient pollution are fertilizer run-off, septic tanks, sewage sludge, industrial wastewater, and much more. We need more protective regulations to prevent these nutrient sources from causing algal blooms and polluting our waterways. Please sign this petition to get Florida legislators' attention before there are no manatees left.
