As an animal enthusiast and a Floridian, I have a problem with the extensive hunting of Florida black bears in Central Florida because they are endangered and have a low enough population for the current rate of the hunting licenses they WILL go extinct. This will effect all Floridians because as the bear's population diminishes ALL of the other animals will become hurt, their main prey items' populations will accelerate to the point that everything in the food web below them will either be hunted or outsourced. People are killing the Bears because they don't like them walking through their yards or knocking over their trash cans, however the only reason why they are doing this is because we are making more and more houses in the bears' home ranges and they need to eat, they need to fight for their lives, they have to feed their cubs, they have to find new homes when they're chased out or move out. We can stop killing them if we make fences, get lockable trash cans, don't leave pet food outside, and not throw out leftovers. If we don't stop the hunting we'll lose one of Florida's most important predators. We will in turn kill more than just the bears, the lower level consumers will take the rest of the food from other animals. If the other animals do eat all of the other food sources then we'll be complaining about how for example, the deer and rabbits will be eating all of our grass, saplings, flowers, tree leaves, and causing car crashes. If we succeed to slow or stop the hunting of black bears and get people to build even just a barb wire fence and lock trash cans the bears will be detoured from coming into the area because they won't be ABLE to eat our trash and can't get through the yards easily.
