Make Physical Therapy Compact Law in Florida

Make Physical Therapy Compact Law in Florida
The Issue
The PT Compact is an agreement between participating states that allows PTs and PTAs more mobility in where they practice, which increases access to care. In today's world and national crisis, it has become evident that healthcare providers need the flexibility to work wherever the need may exist in our country. The PT Compact allows therapist to obtain licenses in participating states without having to undergo the scrutiny presently necessary for licensing between non-participatory states. This flexibility would allow physical therapists and physical therapy assistants who have been laid off in Florida to seek employment where the need is greater. This will not only allow therapists to deliver care where it is needed, but also keep those therapists off the unemployment rolls in Florida. Essentially, therapists will be able to obtain licenses to practice in states where their services are most needed. This does not just allow therapists employment flexibility, it empowers patients to access the services they need to restore their function. The current COVID-19 pandemic highlights the need for flexibility in responding to a health crisis. On the walls of U.S. Air Force squadron facilities it is written, "Flexibility is the key to airpower." Should health care aim for any less?
