End State Gun-Free Zones in Florida
The Issue
Whereas the Orlando Shooting of 2016 happened in my community, hometown, and state affecting fellow Floridians and Americans in a gun-free zone as designated by Florida state law;
And whereas state gun-free zones illegally limit and infringe upon law abiding citizens to exercise their unalienable right to keep and bear arms, as well as the ability of these law abiding citizens to protect and defend themselves and others from any attack that may inflict serious injury or loss of life;
We, the citizens of the State of Florida, ask the Florida Legislature and Governor Rick Scott to eliminate any and all gun-free zones as designated by the State of Florida in order to honor the Constitution of the State of Florida and these United States, as well as to assist in mitigating or eliminating any and all injury or loss of life from future attacks through a responsible, armed citizenry as our Founding Fathers intended.
We hold these truths to be self evident:
The majority of mass shootings occur in areas that are designated as gun-free zones;
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, whether that be a member of law enforcement or a law abiding armed citizen;
Law enforcement cannot be all places at once, and the more good guys with guns there are at any given location will better equip that area to deter and repel any potential attack that may occur;
The best, easiest, and most affordable way to increase the amount of good guys with guns in current gun-free zones would be to remove that designation as determined by the State of Florida and allow the armed citizenry to concealed carry at these locations so long as they are law abiding and have been issued a concealed carry permit as required by Florida law;
Doing this will help keep more Floridians safe against any potential future attacks they may encounter and be legally consistent with the law of both the State of Florida and the United States regarding our God-given inalienable right to keep and bear arms, which shall not be infringed upon.
Final Thoughts:
If the above were to be enacted into law, law abiding citizens concealed carrying in these formerly gun-free zones shall not be under the influence of alcohol, any prohibited substance, or prescribed medication while concealed carrying at these locations or else be in violation of the law.
