Here is the latest update to end dog chaining in Florida.
The President of the Florida Senate, Senator Wilton Simpson (15th district, Pasco, Citrus, Hernando Counties) has stated he is going to kill the legislation (SB650) that would end unattended dog chaining in Florida. This, even though in 2009, twenty-month-old Dallas Walker was killed in a chained-dog attack in Pasco County.
Senator Simpson owns Simpson Farms, a massive commercial egg farm. On January 17, 2018, Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) held undercover investigation of another nearby Florida egg farm. ARM alleged that hens were forced to live in tiny battery cages in what they call, a ‘house of horror’. Senator Simpson responded to those accusations by providing this statement to ABC Action News:
“At Simpson Farms, the health and safety of our animals is our first priority. We are completely and totally against the abuse of any animal. I am all for measures to ensure the health and safety of all animals.”
If that is truly his opinion, why would he not favor a law that protects dogs and children?
Here is what you can do to help take dogs off chains. Click on SenatorSimpson and send him an email. In the subject line type. “I want you to support SB650 and end dog chaining.” In the email, you only need a sentence or two to make your point. If you live in Florida especially Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties,, be sure to let him know that fact. Five minutes of your time may take dogs off chains forever.
Thank you for speaking for those without a voice.
