Since our campus has switched to remote learning (with good reason) for the duration of Summer 2020, the students of FIU have noticed the extra campus related fees implemented towards our Summer tuition. (including fees for online learning $90, transportation fees, health fees, Lab/Art material fees, etc.) These fees are necessary if we were to inhabit campus during the semester and had access to these amenities, but since these amenities are not available to us, they shouldn’t be charged to us. Why should we pay fees to our institution for amenities not only not provided to us, but completely unavailable to us. Since these facilities and other materials are not being used, why would we need to pay for them? If these fees don’t eventually become waived, we have reason to believe that our funds are being funneled into different departments and accounts that are not being advertised to the student body. This petition is being made to waive the campus related fees for the Summer 2020 term. Please consider the concerns of our student body during this trying time.
