While this stimulus check sent through the government is life-saving for many, there is a very big portion of the population that has been underrepresented. If claimed as a dependent, the individual is no longer eligible to receive relief funds. This has deeply affected those who are currently in college and living at home, etc. College students have bills and payments to make as well and should receive funding assuming their taxes have been filed. Personally, I am a full time college student and work part time as a server. I have been left unemployed due to the Coronavirus and my savings are diminishing rapidly considering my bills continue to roll in. I have been saving my money since I was 16, as many of us have as we aim to move out, and I should not have to diminish my hard-earned savings while others are receiving government relief. Dependents have responsibilities and are also greatly affected by the Coronavirus so we should be equally able to receive funding. Those who are “dependent” on their parents still provide a major contribution to the economy and pay taxes just as those who are not claimed as a dependent. Something must be done and relief must be provided to us to ensure that we can make it out of this pandemic just like everyone else.
