Change I-95 plastic poles to disable unnecessary movement in and out of the express lanes.

The Issue

Please help us get the orange pin dividers on I-95 highway in Miami, FL changed or removed to prevent more unnecessary accidents!

In 2008, 2 express lanes were created on I-95 in Miami, Florida as a means to manage traffic congestion. The cost to use these lanes varies and is directly linked to the amount of traffic on I-95. Plastic orange pins, about 3 feet in height, divide the express lanes from the regular lanes. The pins are flexible and leave no damage to vehicles driving over them. Vehicles frequently illegally cross over these pins, either to get out of traffic, or to get off the express lanes as not to miss an exit. Most drivers do not expect other motorists to drive over these pins, which creates a very dangerous situation for everyone on the road.

On October 14th, 2015, for example, two motorcyclists, each on their own bike, wearing helmets and protective gear, were cruising on the I-95 North express lanes when a car crossed over from the regular lanes and hit the motorcycles. All three drivers ended up in the hospital. The motorcyclist who was directly hit lost her leg above the knee and fractured her hip. Her bike was catapulted onto I-95 South. The other motorcyclist mangled her foot. They are both lucky to be alive! This is only one example of how this stretch of I-95 is causing life-altering and sometimes lethal accidents that could be avoided.

Please sign the petition and share it widely. More pins are scheduled to go up in December 2015 and January 2016. Thank you for your time and help.  And please look twice. Road safety can save lives!

Ps. If you live in the State of Florida, please check whether you have 'uninsured and under insured motorist coverage' on your insurance policy. If you ever get in an accident you’ll be happy to have it! Florida is a no-fault state and many people have the minimum mandatory coverage.
