Florida AP Psychology - Urge Governor Ron DeSantis to Allow AP Psych NOW!

Florida AP Psychology - Urge Governor Ron DeSantis to Allow AP Psych NOW!
The Issue
SHAME ON FLORIDA. The fight is not over. Please keep this going. FORWARD, SHARE & POST!
Our high school students, teachers, parents and administrators deserve support!! Contact your representatives, the Florida Department of Education Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. and Governor Ron DeSantis and let them know parents, students and teachers are outraged, disappointed and united to ensure Florida students remain competitive and free to study subjects as they were designed by the experts, not censored by politicians!
On 3 August 2023 it was determined that Florida students will not be allowed to take AP Psychology for weighted credit with the ability to sit for the exam to potentially earn college credit.
Florida law states students in grades 4 through 12 are prohibited from instruction or discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity. Part of the content causing the issue is from asking students to, “describe how sex and gender influence socialization and other aspects of development.” This is not for elementary aged children, this is social science college-level content.
The AP College Board will not remove content to meet Florida law; any formerly designated “AP” course that removes content will not qualify for college credit.
Therefore, to stay within Florida law many school districts are removing AP Psychology from their course selections one week before school begins. This could affect nearly 30,000 public school students across the state. (28,000 took the course during the 2022-2023 school year)
Please join together and help the high school juniors and seniors (ages 16-18) in Florida remain competitive at both in and out-of-state universities by petitioning the Governor, Ron DeSantis, to approve a parental waiver or the course as designed in its entirety and allow students to remain in this course. Time is a factor as they’re actively changing schedules based upon the decision. It may not happen for the 23-24 school year, but please keep this going for future years and future AP courses covering college-level content. AP Board is considering introducing AP Anatomy & Physiology next year, and it would be a shame to ban that, too!
