Add An LGBTQ+ Section to the Period Tracker FLO’s Community

The Issue

Flo Period & Ovulation Tracker by Flo Health, Inc. advertises itself as the “#1 mobile product for women’s health” “chosen by over 86 million women worldwide”. It isn’t only women who use the app. There are many people who were assigned female at birth, but identify as male, non-binary, genderqueer, gender fluid, etc.—who menstruate. And non-straight people also get periods.

Flo users value it for its Community feature, a place to “discuss intimate questions anonymously and get support from millions of women worldwide”. Again, not everyone who uses the app identifies as a woman. There are discussion prompts like “Have you ever had a secret crush? How did it end?” and “How do I refuse sex if I want to wait?” But in the Community, there is no real safe space for the LGBTQ+. We need one now

People are verbally attacked by those who don’t believe in homosexuality and transgenderism. Non-straights have resorted to using a discussion called “Attracted to someone I am not supposed to be: what do I do?” Pro-gay and -trans comments are deleted. This is atrocious...especially seeing as the app’s Terms of Use states: “As a user of the Community, you shall not:
Leave rude, harassing, insulting, provocative, discriminating, non-tolerant, religious, racist, political, homophobic, or offensive comments and statements...”

I have experienced all of this, and while the anonymity of Flo helped me come out, it also hid the people who made me feel like there was something wrong with me.

We are living in a complicated time: being queer is accepted enough that people are able to come out to themselves and want to talk about their identity, but where not being cisgender or straight isn’t accepted enough for everyone to have the support they need.

That’s why it’s so important for Flo to add an LGBTQ+ section. Young queers need to know that there are others like them out there, and have a community there for them.

Sign and share this petition today to bring an LGBTQ+ section to Flo’s Community and help queers around the world.

And if possible, please consider making a donation—Change.org will promote this petition by sending it to more people. Thank you so much!
