Ban Plastic Bags in Flagstaff

Ban Plastic Bags in Flagstaff
The Issue
An estimated 10 million plastic bags are given to Flagstaff consumers each year!!! The vast majority are not recycled or reused, instead, they end up littering and polluting our streets, open spaces, and waterways, placing an unnecessary burden on our landfill and costing tax payers thousands of dollars every year.
The perceived convenience of single-use plastic bags has a high price, TOO HIGH!
We now have a unique opportunity to address problems caused by disposable plastic bags through a direct ban or a fee in Flagstaff. City Council will be hearing options for dealing with plastic bags for the first time on January 13th 2015.
Join Community and student groups including NAU Green Jacks, NAU Office of Sustainability, Sierra Club Plateau Group, Friends of the Rio De Flag, Friends of Flagstaff's Future, Flagstaff Speak Up and more in supporting a solution to plastic bags! Bisbee AZ, Sante Fe NM, Portland OR, Boulder CO and 172 other US cities banned plastic bags (through a direct ban or a fee method). Flagstaff should be next!
