Tell Rep Renner to Vote No on HB 1557

Tell Rep Renner to Vote No on HB 1557

The Issue

On Tuesday, February 22nd, the Florida House of Representatives will vote on HB 1557. Coined the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by activists, if passed, queer students in the state will be hurt tremendously.

The bill effectively bans any classroom discussion of different sexual orientations or gender identity in primary school levels. In addition, the restrictions continue in later grades, on an arbitrary basis of what is deemed “age appropriate.”

Make no mistake, this is an attempt to erase the history and existence of queer individuals from Florida schools. This will limit staff from openly discussing with students their personal struggles, in which crucial support could be offered. In addition, our extensive history and fight for human rights will be prevented from being taught.

We call on Representative Paul Renner to vote no on HB 1557, in order to protect LGBTQ+ youth, like me.

Be the change.
