The East Surrey Liberal Democrats are concerned about the safety of Chart Lane and its’ junction with Waterlow Road and Belmont Road where there have been three serious collisions in 2025 due to excessive speed, inadequate signage and poor sight lines. The last accident involving two vehicles occurred on 7th August 2026  when three people were taken to hospital.

This section of road has become increasingly busy with the growth of local schools. The situation is likely to get worse as Dunottar School has recently been given planning permission to increase in size by a third, and their traffic management plan directs traffic down Waterlow Road to the junction with Chart Lane.  It requires traffic calming measures, such as table top humps and improved sight lines and better signage, to improve safety for all road users. Cllrs Mark Johnston and Mike Robinson East Surrey Council, both local Reigate residents, are leading a campaign to seek a Safety Review of this junction by Surrey County Council’s Highways’ Department 

We need your support for Surrey Council Council to conduct a Safety Review and to implement a series of measures to address the issues identified.  How long will it be until somebody is seriously injured or worse at this junction unless preventive measures are taken to improve it?
