Fix the Setting Program at The Cliffs at Callowhill

Fix the Setting Program at The Cliffs at Callowhill
The Issue
The Cliffs at Callowhill is Philadelphia's largest, most central climbing gym with the most modern facilities.... and the undisputed worst setting program in the city. It is a common refrain amongst members how poor and inconsistent the setting is and historically has been.
While we acknowledge setting is a difficult job, it seems as though the climbs are put up quickly and rushed through just to have something on the wall. This may be due to pressures placed on setters by management or perhaps some setters have lost their passion. Whatever the cause, it is harmful to the gym.
How could this be addressed? Potential options include, but are not limited to:
- hiring additional setters
- modeling PRG's approach to community consensus grades and quality ratings
- reducing the rate of resetting so setters can focus on quality over quantity
- changing leadership within the setting team
With the increase in membership fees the sting of poor setting is even more palpable. If the setting is not improved more members will leave the gym, especially as Reach and Gravity Vault move toward developing gyms inside Philadelphia. Fix the setting before it becomes the gym's death knell.
Let me be clear, we love the setters. We want an environment where they can flourish and create the best possible experience for members.
