We, the residents of Senekal, Rosendal, Ficksburg and  users of the R70 Road, petition the  Provincial Administration to the  Free State to resurface, repair and widen R 70, between Senekal and Ficksburg.

After years of deterioration, the R70 has become nearly impassable for vehicles of all kinds. This is having severe impact on the farming and tourism sectors and services upon which thousands of jobs and livelihoods depend. Not only are these towns affected, this is a key regional—and international—route for goods and passenger transport, between Johannesburg-Maseru and other towns in Lesotho.

Collectively, the residents and groups who have signed below, bring to the MEC’s attention the urgency of the road situation. It is noted that promises have been made to improve this road in the upcoming financial year under the Free State provincial budget. However, clear information and commitments on this have not been released. Just as seriously, routine road maintenance has come to a halt—a serious, competently implemented pot hole repair program must be instated until proper road works contract is in place.
