Stop the gravel patch‑ups — repair it and seal it properly now with a transparent tender that includes local contractors.

Why This Matters
In 2020, NZTA (Waka Kotahi) spent $500,000 “repairing” the Maraetai Beach seawall by filling it with loose gravel. Locals warned this was a temporary fix — and it failed. The wall is now once again damaged, unsafe, and a dangerous liability.

A respected local contractor estimated a full sealed, lasting repair would cost around $50,000 — a fraction of the failed attempt. That option was never considered.

Instead, NZTA is talking about maybe fixing it by the end of 2026, after more consultants, assessments, and bureaucrats have had their say. Meanwhile, public money is being wasted — and nobody wants to admit it.

We demand:
✅ An immediate, sealed repair, not another gravel band‑aid.
🛠️ A contestable tender process open to capable local contractors.
💰 A halt to wasteful spending on consultants and “temporary” fixes.
🔍 Full transparency on how the initial $500,000 was spent and why alternative proposals were ignored.
This isn’t just about a seawall — it’s about public safety, accountability, efficient spending, and showing respect for local expertise.
