The Issue

I’m a local rider, and I use the Spiceball skatepark every day. I’ve seen the dedication and passion that skaters bring to this park. However, the skatepark has become increasingly dangerous due to holes, broken ramps, and uneven surfaces. These aren't just minor inconveniences—they are serious safety hazards that endanger everyone who rides there.

Spiceball skatepark serves as a vital hub for the community in Banbury, drawing not just local enthusiasts but also professionals from wider areas. It's more than just a concrete playground; it’s a place where friendships are formed, skills are honed, and dreams are pursued. Maintaining a safe environment is crucial not only for the enjoyment of the sport but also for ensuring that our skaters, including many young people, are not risking injury each time they practice.

With the increasing number of users and the impact of weathering over the years, it's clear that the park requires urgent repairs. Research from the UK Public Parks Foundation shows that well-maintained community spaces can significantly enhance community cohesion and provide positive activities for young people, reducing anti-social behavior.

To address these conditions, I propose that the local council allocate funds and resources for the immediate renovation of the skatepark. This includes fixing holes, resurfacing the skate area, and replacing any damaged structures. By investing in these repairs, the council would not only be ensuring the safety of its citizens but also promoting an active, healthy lifestyle for the youth and maintaining an important community venue.

Please join me in calling on the local Banbury council to take immediate action in fixing the Spiceball skatepark. Your signature can help us create a safer, more welcoming environment for all riders. Sign the petition now and support the revitalization of Spiceball skatepark.
