Fix potholes and maintain roads in Phase 4, Kathu

The Issue

I was almost involved in four accidents last week alone because people are forced to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid the deep potholes scattered across our streets in Phase 4, Kathu. These potholes are not just mere inconveniences; they are dangerous, causing accidents and inflicting costly damage to our vehicles. Just recently, I had to repair my tyre due to damage from these potholes and even suffered a damaged mag rim.

Our community consistently pays rates and taxes, yet our calls for road maintenance seem to fall on deaf ears. The municipality argues that it's the responsibility of the mine to maintain our area, while the mine insists they have already transferred this duty to the municipality. This bureaucratic blame game leaves us, the residents, suffering daily hazards and expenses due to neglected infrastructure.

Road safety is a basic necessity and right for all of us living here. It's alarming to witness the escalating risks and financial burdens due to neglected road conditions. The primary role of our municipal authorities is to ensure the wellbeing and safety of their residents, which they are currently failing to do. We need immediate action and clear accountability in assigning the maintenance duties to prevent potential disasters.

We are demanding that the responsible parties—be it the municipality or the mine—take urgent action to repair the existing potholes and establish a regular maintenance schedule to ensure our roads remain safe and traversable. Our community’s safety and wellbeing depend on it.

Sign this petition to demand that our roads in Phase 4, Kathu, receive the attention and maintenance they critically need. Let's hold those in power accountable and enforce immediate change in our infrastructure management. Together, we can elevate this issue to ensure our roads do not remain neglected. Your signature will make a difference.
