Petition To Fully Pave County Road 89 North (Scenic Drive) – DeKalb County, Alabama

Fellow Residents and Commissioners,

County Road 89 North – Scenic Drive – is in crisis.

Deep potholes, endless failed patches, and a washboard surface now make every trip a gamble with tires, suspensions, and safety. Emergency vehicles, which need to reach their destinations swiftly, are being forced to slow down due to the unpredictable and hazardous road conditions. Personal vehicles suffer extensive wear and tear, leading to hundreds of dollars in repair costs for the residents. This is not a matter of occasional inconvenience; it is a recurring problem that represents systemic neglect. The county’s road engineer has stated that the next and FINAL resurfacing will stop at the first vacation rental north of the fire station, which is just beyond the turn for Ponderosa Bible Camp.  The reason for stopping paving at an arbitrary cutoff: the road is “too narrow.”

We measured it ourselves – in multiple locations – and the unpaved sections are the exact same width as the portions already paved just a short distance away. The excuse does not hold. Completing the paving is not a luxury; it is the fair, logical, and long-overdue fix we have already paid for in taxes and damaged vehicles. We, the undersigned, demand that the DeKalb County Commission:

  • Immediately resume and complete the paving of County Road 89 North (Scenic Drive) for its entire length.
  • Stop wasting money on band-aid patches and deliver the permanent solution this road deserves.

Our families, our safety, and our wallets can’t wait any longer.

Fix Scenic Drive North – all of it – now.

We are counting on you.
