The Issue

Our Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Class of 2027 t-shirts are supposed to represent our creative community and students. The current designs available don't reflect the vibrant creativity and individuality that makes our class. These designs do not reflect or represent our creativity nor are approved/ reflect the students, even though they were supposed. Many students took the time and effort to submit their own designs, yet only 3 of them were supposedly considered in the final selection. This is more than just about a t-shirt this is about our senior year, a milestone that should reflect our own voices and expressions. We deserve to wear something that we helped create, something that truly represents our grade, not a generic template. Students weren’t even given guidelines or conditions for approval, so how are students supposed to fairly submit designs if they don’t know what criteria or restrictions will determine whether a design can even be considered? It seems difficult to create submissions that meet expectations without any guidance on what is or isn’t likely to be approved. The school is missing out on celebrating the diverse talents of its students. We propose that the administration include all submissions for selecting the Class of 2027 t-shirt designs. This would change them voting process among the students to ensure transparency and fairness and also include and allow some revision for submitted designs to follow the conditions for approval in t shirt designs. This way, every student can have a fair say and be proud of what they wear for their senior year. This is our senior year not theirs. The Class of 2027 deserves a design that truly reflects who we are and our creativity . Please sign this petition to demand that the school reconsider the t-shirt designs for the Class of 2027 and give us, the opportunity to choose a design we can proudly wear.
