Let FISD seniors be honored on the field

Let FISD seniors be honored on the field
The Issue
Each year at a selected football game, senior participants of football, cheer, band, color guard and dance who have put in countless hours of practice and service are honored by being able to walk onto the field escorted by their parents or loved ones. This also occurs at select volleyball and fall sports games.
This year, Frisco Independent School District high schools are announcing they will not allow our 2021 seniors to be recognized as they have been for decades at local senior night football games. “Due to COVID protocols, we will be honoring students via video ceremony only,” wrote one school administrator.
Will the football team seniors be able to participate in the ceremony this year? Will they hear their name and applause as they sit in the locker room preparing for the upcoming game or during the halftime coaching session? Will the participants see the love on the faces and sense of pride as they would when parents escorted them on the field for their moment?
FISD has put in place protective protocols which have returned our high schools to face-to-face learning. Theses protocols include social distancing in hallways, cafeterias and spacing out desks in the classrooms. In practice, most of the protocols do not conform to 6’ of spacing.
Sign this petition and let the FISD Superintendent Mike Waldrip, Trustee Board President Chad Rudy, Vice President Rene’ Archambault, all of our elected board members and the UIL know our senior athletes and participants have worked hard for over a decade and deserve the opportunity to experience these just as seniors have for decades here in Frisco, Texas and it can be done properly with 6’ social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizer.
