Save our local bus services that are being cut
The Issue
This bus route is used by many and will be another factor adding to isolating the valleys. This route covers Blaengarw, Pontycymer, Llangienor,Bettws, Brynmenyn, Ynysawdre and Sarn, which then continues on to McArthurglen, Litchard and finally to Bridgend bus station. This bus runs from 16:35 to 23:30. Of course some of you would say use the other bus that goes to Blaengarw (72), however it only goes from Blaengarw, Pontycymer, Llangienor, briefly in Brynmenyn, then onto McAgthurglen and finally to the station. The 73 is the only bus that continues to go to and from blaengarw after 7pm, the only service set on a Sunday and the only service working in blaengarw on bank holidays.
The loss of this route will leave so many people of all ages unable to access so many places, without paying a hefty amount for a ticket(s) to get on other buses, along with the awkward bus times. For an example, if someone unable to drive is working in McArthurglen until 8 and lives in Blaengarw or Bettws, they simply cannot get home without paying an extortionate amount for a taxi. This due to the other bus service (72) finishing at 7pm. This also effects people who use the bus in Bettws, as for the 76 is being cut as well, only leaving the 77. However, the 77 only runs until 5pm, and the 76 only ran until 6pm. All in all, cutting the bus services will have a devastating effect on the community, and will continue to isolate the valleys.
Along with other buse services being cut such as the 75 going throughout ogmore to nantymoel via Walters roads, Caedu crossing and so on. This means that anyone living on this side of the split ogmore valley, which the 75 runs through will have to walk all the way over to the other side. This would approximately take 5-15 minutes, which is unsuitable for the elderly and people with young children, whom regularly use the bus.
