Save the X1 bus service between Hamilton and Glasgow

Bus operator First Greater Glasgow has axed the X1 bus service, announcing the vital express route between Hamilton and Glasgow City Centre will be permanently withdrawn.

This is not the first time the X1 has been threatened. The bus was successfully saved last year, following a petition by Hamilton resident Rebecca Creechan and campaigning by service users and local politicians. This was feared to be a temporary reprieve and our fears have been realised. During the COVID-19 crisis, the service was ‘temporarily withdrawn’ but it’s clear that First wanted rid of the X1 at the earliest opportunity.

The X1 bus is a vital service for our local communities and is the only direct bus link to Glasgow. For many workers, the X1 is an essential vital public transport link.

MSPs, MPs and Councillors from various parties have challenged the decision but First are not for budging. Please sign this petition to urge First Greater Glasgow and the Cabinet Secretary for Transport to ensure that a direct bus link between Hamilton and Glasgow is retained. Our community must not be silenced during the Coronavirus pandemic; we cannot accept profit being put before people at such a vulnerable time.

  • In the comments box please tell the Scottish Government and the bus company what impact the removal of the X1 will have on you and why it must be saved.
