Why this petition matters

Started by Andrew Smirthwaite

As from October 21st, First Bus South East and Central Scotland stranded all travelers from West Lothian into Falkirk. The 29 service used to run Broxburn to Falkirk, however after a revision of the service the 29 now starts at Avonbridge. This leaves Westfield and Bridgehouse without a bus service. This not only leaves people in these areas without a transport link, it also cuts off easy access to Falkirk and education links to Forth Valley College. Providing open access to as many education choices as possible should be a top priority to ensure students have a choice. Since the changes came into effect the cost to travel from Armadale to Falkirk has gone up by 30% because of this, what used to be one bus is now two trains. It is becoming more and more financially viable to drive this instead of using public transport and cause more damage to the environment. As Student President at Forth Valley Student Association I am seeing students now struggle to get to college to reach their goals. First bus need to do what is right for the communities, and ending this service is definitely not the right way to do it. Please stop cutting off communities, education links and people who may not be able to afford to drive. The Aim of this petition is the 29 bus route to be extended back to at least its original route, Bathgate Train Station – Armadale – Bridgehouse – Westfield – Avonbridge – California – Shieldhill – Falkirk at all times of the day.
