As a student myself, I have had numerous negative encounters with the school nurse. My stories may differ from others, but I am here to share them. I encourage other students to do the same. If a student goes to her and asks for their parent/guardian to be called, she takes their temperature first. If there is no temperature, she denies to call anyone. I have a sister at my school as well who was very sick one day. Living in the same house, I felt the same. We both went to the nurse to call our father to get us permission to go home. Both of us did not run a fever, so she denied us to go home. After pleading with her, she asked our names. Remember, prior I had mentioned that we were sisters. We have the SAME last name mind you. She called my contact first, and then hers(which is the SAME PERSON). As we both got permission to go home, we explained that we ride to school together, so we would be riding home together. She claimed that was not allowed as we are not related......

We are very much related. We had said this many times. We have the same address and contacts on file. After trying to reason with her for over 5 minutes, she finally said "Oh, are you sisters?".

The nurse tends to be very confused a lot of the time. Every encounter I have had with her she seems mentally incapacitated. 

What drove me to make this petition is today, a friend of mine who has very good attendance, grades, and behavior was denied to go home. This friend was visibly red, sweating, and crying from how sick they felt. As you all know, a new rule is in place regarding cell phones. Students cannot have them out, they are to be LOCKED in a pouch. This friend of mine follows those rules, which a lot of students do not. They could not call anyone to advocate for themselves. This would be perfectly fine if us students had someone to advocate for us. We do not have a nurse that truly cares about our health. 

When I was asking my friend about his experience today, I asked my whole class if they had experienced something similar with the nurse. Almost the entirety of my class had their hands raised.

This is not fair for us students. School is supposed to be a place of learning and safety. We cannot feel safe if we are trapped at school sick, with no contact to our parents/ guardians. Please consider signing this petition for the safety of MGM and it's students.
